Cryo-Cons, Zoom Fails, and AI: Inside Our Next Production

After several trips back to the drawing board, I am thrilled to be able to share details of our next production, ‘System Error: A Trilogy’ with you all.

After the success of our last multi-play show back in 2022, we wanted to bring you three unique plays in one night, all linked by a single theme: the limitations and failings of technology. Directed by myself and Amy Smith in her directorial debut, each play is a comedy that highlights the hilarity of technology going wrong.

Here is what is loading on stage this April:

‘Artificial Irritation’ written by Bill Malarkey explores the fallout that happens when a frustrated granddaughter, fed up of always having to respond to the needs of her grandmother and her aged friends, installs a smart speaker that can control everything from the lights to the locking device on the fridge door. ‘Lance’ it seems, may be too good to be true.

‘Don’t Stay in There Too Long’ written by Hugh Smith, transports us to the year 2117 where a cryogenically frozen ex-con is thawed out 89 years later than he should have been. While the two scientists grapple for the right words to apologise, Mr Stevens, who prefers the nickname ‘Slasher,’ is coming up with ideas to get his own kind of unique kind of compensation.

‘We’re All Zoomed’ written by Andy Bennison takes us back to the days of Covid where a struggling Amdram group under new directorship have had to move their committee meeting online. With some participants being more competent with the technology than others, prima donnas wanting more than their 5 minutes in the spotlight and a talkative parrot who seems to have witnessed some unusual shenanigans going on in his owner’s house, the meeting soon descends into chaos.

‘System Error: A Trilogy’ will be performed at Westwell Parish Hall on the 23rd, 24th and 25th April.
